Building a Mixed-Density Japanese Residential Area in Cities Skylines
Detached houses next to mid-rise apartments, ground-floor shops sharing walls with residential units. Episode 8 builds Takeishi 1-Chome — a mixed-density area southwest of the interchange.

Main Road Frontage
Five to seven story apartment buildings with commercial ground floors, flush against the sidewalk with zero front setback. Wall-to-wall construction creates a continuous street edge.
Interior Block — Detached Houses
Individual houses on small lots — narrow frontages, deep plots. Each house gets unique detailing: different roof colors, small carports, potted plants, mailboxes.

Street-Level Detailing
Utility poles with visible wiring, manhole covers, curbside mirrors at blind corners, garbage collection points, street trees, and block walls with decorative patterns. Each street gets this layer applied individually.

The cumulative effect transforms a grid of buildings into a neighborhood that feels genuinely Japanese.
